Point of View

When you chose a major or a field of study you chose a particular point of view, maybe you are not aware of it at the time, but you certainly are choosing a way of see live and a way of behave, the knowledge you get a school shapes you in what you become later, so choosing the right thing for you is important but if you make a mistake is not that bad unless you are broke, because everything you learn in class (notice that I said everything you learn not everything the teacher says) it helps you weather you want it or not, it gives you some perspective about certain subject and later it is translated to what you become, for example I have a friend who spend two years of her life in collage (as an undergraduate student) taking classes to get into a good medical school, after that she realized that she wanted to become a writer and she majored in English, then she got a MA in literature and started to paint; now she is a painter but the point is that she paints the human body so perfectly and express in words what the painting means to her in a way that makes you want to buy the painting, I have to admit that I think is that all of these things are possible because she knows the human body, she took three anatomy classes, and she took English classes, so she understands the body and how to translate that into a painting and after that she could write a novel about it.
I am not saying that it will work out every time, and if you want to become a painter you should try pre-med first, no, but what I am saying is that you can actually use everything you learn, and if you think a class doesn’t help you, think twice, if you think collage doesn’t help you, think again, and don’t worry too much about what classes to take, or what to do in collage, but you must have a big picture of what you want to be and everything will come easier. It doesn’t matter if the image you have in your head about your future is not clear, but try to picture it, try to think about what you want to do and how you want to do it, then you can apply everything you learn into that big plan of your life.
For you who can afford collage, please take advantage of it, go to class, read, write and have fun while you are doing it, enjoy the moment when the only problem you have is the amount of pages you paper has, or if the book is not in the library; read right now when you don’t have a baby to take care of, write now that you don’t have to pick up your kid from school, do it now that you have the chance because these years will go faster than you think, and it would be great if at the end of it you will leave school with the satisfaction you enjoyed it like there were no tomorrow.
